A Few Simple Verses

Released: Jun 06, 2006

On this album James sings other people's songs, longtime favourites of his: "Some I learned when I was very young. Some are songs that have been important in my musical development. Some I chose for emotional reasons. They all tell good stories." The one 'new' song is by leading UK songwriter, Jez Lowe. For Keelaghan the diversity of musicians he recorded with is one of the most exciting things about the album: Danu, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, Jordan McConnell (from The Duhks), Stephen Fearing, Oscar Lopez, Ruth Moody (from The Wailin' Jennies), Geoff Kelley (from Spirit of the West). With these songs and that voice there's no need to worry about the tradition ? it's in good hands! James Keelaghan won 'Best Traditional Singer' for this album at the Canadian Folk Awards.
