My dear friend Michael Wrycraft passed this mornin My dear friend Michael Wrycraft passed this morning at 0355. He was hilarious, maddening, irreverent, fiercely loyal and the best of friends. He was completing a cover project for me, the seventh that he had created for me, so we spent a lot of time on the phone over the past two months, discussing way more than the cover and talking way past our bedtime. My last conversation with him was a week ago last Saturday, and though he had trouble breathing, we stayed on the phone for close to two hours talking about this last journey. There was a new song of mine that had come up in conversation a few times. It had become a favourite of his. We closed our last conversation on that song, The Benefits of Surrender. He realised he had fought the good fight and though he would fight for another week, he told me the lyrics were on his mind. Here's the chorus. Safe home Michael. There's a big hole in the world right now, but we will fill it with laughter and tears and memories. Thank you for everything, my friend.

I've been pushing back when I should be giving in
Brittle and hard I can't bend with the wind
I've been making do when I could have had splendour
if I could accept the benefits of surrender
