We got a ticket in Penrith when we parked, unknowingly, in a loading zone. The parking officer suggested we write to the parking authority and plead our case ( basically, that we’re Canadian and didn’t know) they did indeed forgive the ticket, but the email contained this very British paragraph:
“…although we are satisfied that a contravention had occurred and the Penalty Charge Notice was served correctly, we appreciate that as a visitor you may not be fully au fait with British parking controls. Consequently we have decided to exercise discretion and waive the Penalty Charge Notice on this occasion.”
Dissed and pardoned at the same time-UK style.
