You all know by now I love to travel. It’s part and parcel of what I do, but I love to share the places I’ve been. Many of you know I’ve been doing Irish tours for about a decade, but last fall I was presented with the opportunity to book my first-ever tour of Scotland– did I tell you my mother was a McKie?
I’ve partnered with Scottish Folk Tours to do my first tour of Scotland, and you are invited along. Scotland Folk Tours is a leader in this kind of experience, and for my first foray, I’ve chosen an itinerary they call Beyond the Tartan. As you can guess by the name, it’s just the kind of experience I love to share with you. A deep dive into the culture, the music and the food of the countries I go to. This is an 11-day itinerary that starts in Edinburgh, takes you through the Highlands and to the Isle of Skye and Inverness. The scenery is unparalleled, the music is infectious, and together we’ll drink of the water of life.
Then, in 2027, I’ll be at it again. You can join me for Beyond the Borders.
Experience the Borders where history, landscape, and song intertwine. This 11-day journey from Stirling to the Lake District traces the paths of Wallace and Bruce, wanders the banks of the Tweed, and lingers in places that inspired Scott and Burns. From Rosslyn Chapel to Grey Mare’s Tail, from Scotland’s highest village to England’s most beloved national park, each day reveals new stories etched into the land. Walk among Roman ruins at Hadrian’s Wall, then return north through rolling hills and quiet lochs. Along the way, music and storytelling bring these timeless landscapes vividly to life.
